usually will be something some new
technology it will cause damage or death
there will be an outcry there will be
investigation years will pass there will
be some sort of insight to committee
they will be rulemaking then there will
be oversight eventually regulations this
all takes many years that skill is all
AI it’s flying itself it’s process can
react a hundred times faster than a
human the stochastic motion is an anti
sniper future
just like any mobile device these days
it has cameras and sensors and just like
your phones and social media apps it
does facial recognition inside here is
three grams of shape explosive this is
how it works
did you see them that little bag is
enough to penetrate the skull and
destroy the contents they used to say
guns don’t kill people people do well
people don’t they get emotional disobey
orders aim high I try to convince people
to slow down slow down
AI to regulate AI this was futile I
tried for years
Vlada soon and not so many years what
decades we will for the first time have
little computational devices that can
compute as much as a human brain and
this a trend doesn’t break fifty years
later there will be a little
computational device for the same price
that can compute as much as all 10
billion human brains taken together and
there will not only be one of those
devices but many many many everything is
going to change the percentage of
intelligence that is not human is
increasing and eventually we will
represent a very small percentage of
intelligence
like this is extremely important I think
a danger of AI is much greater than the
danger of nuclear warheads landlocked
and nobody would suggest that we allow
anyone to just build nuclear warheads if
they want that would be insane now I’m
telling you this story to get you
thinking about how something’s small and
seemingly mundane like a little bit
precipitation can easily grow into
something very dangerous we are driving
in the rain with AI right now and that
rain will turn to snow and that snow
could become a blizzard
we need to pause check the conditions
put in place safety standards and ask
ourselves how far do we want to go
because the economic incentives for AI
and automation to replace human labor
will be beyond anything we have seen
since the Industrial Revolution now just
consider the smartest person who’s ever
lived and almost everyone’s shortlist
here is John Bunn women may be the
impression that fun women made on the
people around him and this included the
greatest mathematicians and physicists
of his time it’s fairly well documented
I mean if if only half the stories about
him are half true there’s no question
he’s one of the smartest people who’s
ever lived
so consider the spectrum of intelligence
here we have John bun women and then we
have Ewing me and then we have a chicken
sorry a chicken it’s no reason for me to
make this talk more depressing that
needs to be it seems overwhelmingly
likely however that the spectrum of
intelligence extends much further than
we currently conceived and if we build
machines that are more intelligent than
we are they will very likely explore the
spectrum in ways that we can’t imagine
and exceed us in ways that we can’t
imagine this timeframe is not relevant
to AI
you can’t take 10 years from the pointer
which is dangerous su-8 the primitive
forms of artificial intelligence we
already have had proved very useful but
I think the development of for
artificial intelligence could spell the
end of the human race once humans
develop artificial intelligence that
will take off on its own and redesign
itself at an ever-increasing rate
humans who are limited by slow
biological evolution couldn’t compete
and would be superseded your phone is
already an extension of you you’re
already a cyborg
you don’t even but most will arise there
are already a side with if that phone is
an extension of yourself it’s just that
the the data rate the rate at which of
communication rate between you and the
cybernetic extension of yourself that is
your phone and computer is slow it’s
very slow and that that is like a tiny
stroll of information flow between your
biological self and your digital self
mark my words the eye is far more
dangerous than nukes far so why do we
have no regulatory oversight this is insane
