Goo Goo Dolls Talk ‘Magnetic’

hi I’m John Rzeznik from the Goo Goo
Dolls this is watchmojo.com
but soon you
reflection so the google does have been
together for over 25 years yeah how
would you say the new album magnetic
represents who you guys are as musicians
today I think it definitely represents
where we’re at sort of in our lives
there’s certain sort of comfortable kind
of swagger and a lot of the material
that I don’t think we’ve ever had before
it’s always one of those situations
where you hope that your music evolved
with you as a person and and what you do
and I think we’ve achieved that
where else to go
can you talk to me a bit about the main
lyrical and musical themes of the album
you know what the whole sort of theme of
the album that kind of unfolded itself
and and I was able to sort of look at
and go what is this it’s sort of like
you know get up get out live your life
to see how things are moving really fast
it’s not a chicken
it’s gonna stop
kiss a decent song yeah she talked me a
bit about the song writing and music
making process I know that you worked
with a few different producers and you
also wrote with several other people as
well yeah I wanted to make this look at
big mmm just mash of everything and
everybody and a lot of different
influences and ideas personalities was
really really fun I mean it didn’t work
with with a few people and not that
stuff isn’t on the record but I did work
with most of them and that’s that’s the
material that we want abusing we took
our time we wrote one song at a time and
completed it so as a process of just
sort of keeping the energy fresh all
time having different influences on you
every few days how would you say it’s
different from your last record
something for the rest of us it’s a lot
more positive kind of upbeat for a lack
of a better term it’s a little more
accessible a little poppy or whatever
it’s just a little more lighthearted I
think the tech boys on
help
the first single rebel feet is is very
upbeat fun-loving can you tell me a bit
about the concept behind the song and
writing it I just was taking a walk down
the street and I saw this big block
party going on and I was kind of torn
between enjoying watching what i was
saying and a lot really longing to be
part of it and sort of feeling kind of
alienated standing on the edge of it and
that’s kind of where where the lyrics
kind of go in that song it’s really sort
of a story about these two kids inside
this tightly knit community and and I’m
trying to break away from it well thank
you so much for your time thank you very
much
