I am 5 foot 5
so I guess is a surprise most people
that I love basketball
I’m not talking about watching
basketball I really love playing every
first day night I will play pick-up
games with my friends in Cupertino it’s
consistently one of the highlight of my
week playing basketball I pick it up in
my late teens I thought and I pick
together and this was how we met this
magical Court is in Hong Kong it’s where
I stopped playing regularly
he was year 2006 I was putting my first
out up back then we have very small 600
square foot office in the building’s
right next to this court even lunchtime
my team and I would go down and fight
and remember last of what you may know
how come is very very humid so you play
Under the Sun it was sweat a lot in a
very small office with sometimes a few
with reverent presence now but we didn’t
care we can’t play any keep you in good
and we have a lot of fun I first got up
in a product by Apple in 2008 and I got
relocated to United States in thing
possible became partner to his culture I
left that will last year I want to do
something from scratch again and you get
up with my new team Explorer in on
account of the world but I love with our
plan so far fewer three months we kept
researching and explored with the nine
years I’m about done I was often coffee
something coffee shop
comparing wearing my pad on the way in
case you guys are interested converted
coffee in Santa Clara really fantastic
Wi-Fi in the topic of today’s talk is my
idea number 15 the inspiration came one
even a random thing to campaign my wife
and daughter don’t like to watch for
some reason I can never bring my shot in
front of them so I thought it’d be great
if I can show them how I normally play I
could not convince my whitewater 15min
this video or pickup game of course but
if I can send her 15 seconds of me
making my shots I’m sure she would
probably watch it and that got me
thinking even further you’ll be amazing
if I can get box score and shot shot for
my game it’ll be even more amazing if I
can do all your golf with nothing I was
been my phone so ultimately I founded a
startup I could find a startup we should
be around this idea we are drawn to
design here this one is a really hot
technical problem to solve and we like
to challenge and second we really like
basketball so just like all good
engineers with you we will stop by
pricking than a big problem you do
smaller problem and here we forget where
to start
so we stop by trying to understand the
basketball court so it gets started with
like the journey appearing before a eye
to understand the game of basketball
just with your phone from what I see
from a camera he is a typical basketball
court he’s actually in court where you
play hunches of games in on Thursday
night you understand the court we can do
two things one located
Loretta cookies and second son can
understand the geometry of the court
okay know who we spread seriously didn’t
strain out a I returned his office image
until we can consistently do it on his
own
don’t understand Catholicism bargain as
it turns out it’s really hard to train a
knight understand to the lines and make
up the court this outdoor court looks
easy what this indoor court have
refraction and tons of
eventually if they go away into training
I do an effective points in the court
and we start to rectify the court thank
you behind you and this will enable us
to convert a point here into a part of
the pair of you knowing this is
important
they’re trying any kind of shot chart
requires understanding where the shooter
yes now we have AI to understand the
static elements of the game the who and
the trauma stream now next is to tackle
the moving animals how can we determine
whether is successful shot or a system
miss to do that we figure that classic
Kokomo division technique can really
would do pretty good job already
we put a reach of interest around who
area and wanted to all pics of movement
in that area
we would check them all and check it how
he move through the area and after going
through enough testing data we have
except was a set of heuristics to
determine may
versus this it was 100% accuracy now
where’s the sugar so particulate out
okay I would watch the video backward
chase the war accurate player’s hand
anyway he jumps up off and okay the
and it’s how we basically child
understand location of the shooter I
skip a few details here but it’s a
high-level idea so now let’s put
everything together you put a set of
your firm and let have good vision of
the court they I automatically
recognized by the copious and draw much
of the court in some tracking weakness
and location in real time all by its own
just football to see from the camera by
creating mobile any language understand
your movement we’re making your phone a
little bit more human as soon as we
could put this in half he’s not testing
it ourselves and with other players it’s
this is me reporting for chris i by the
tens of thousands of us in the course of
building this app so we use the app to
keep track of a passport workout and
after that they add withdraw so child in
his first trial chris is so excited
about in shock charge and you couldn’t
wait to shade with his family if your
parents and coach i saw really picks
martinez face I choose milan lock first
happy users great we don’t want to leave
me to share just a million friends
in fact Chris flap can share his video
and shot chart and stats to a corporate
leader board and compete with other
possible players were one will be
returning this individual basket workout
in your really global Internet
experience and now play in Japan 10
Chris
honest cooperate about standing and get
better together in a sense what you
think it is for any future doesn’t lose
for like basketball
we also woven how di the Chantry is in
game that we see the enhanced viewing
experience we can round up your mountain
that’s right here we put a circle in
peasant
so there’s grandparents and easy to
track
this movement amongst other players I
hope you also use an app to track my
boss is shot and kept your wonderful
woman like this I know a lot of parents
and kids are connected for sports even
as an adult
asko really happy when you people and
create new friendships this is us
celebrating our hunters the game and
it’s gathering in this possible court
and this will be what we really do to me
we want to create a way for possible
players of the world to get better you
can have and share wonderful movements
and memories and if you can do that I
will consider that work a slam dunk
thank you [Applause]
