Doggone Birds | Yukon River Run

Alaskan adventurer Scotty Lamkin gives
his crew a much-needed break after
rowing into the wind all morning but
sore backs are nothing compared to empty
stomachs and Scotty’s raft is low on
food like don’t call bird brains for
nothing a week ago in the village of
rampart Lance traded a jar of seal oil
for five chickens hoping to provide the
raft with a steady supply of protein are
they layered good layers yes so we can
have a lot of egg there but so far the
chickens haven’t held up their end of
the bargain you know that they have been
making too many eggs but just cool
temperatures they don’t like that huh
who knows and for some reason they only
been laying in one nest the other two
nests on the right there really are
empty hmm just one nest good my patience
is running a little bit thin with these
chickens based on their production
levels there’s more crap on deck under
his eggs in the nest so if I had my
druthers we’d be had fried chicken every
night for about the next week for now
the hope of fresh eggs is enough to
spare the chickens so Scotty heads out
to find food the same way people have
survived on the Yukon for generations
she started honey at a very very young
age what my father he’d get up for him
we go squirrel on it was very exciting
days we were probably nine years old my
brother night
it’s just amazing food Alaska can put on
your table
