What’s up folks!
I have brought you out to the mountains today to show you a cool trick you can do with a lighter.
Now over the years, I have shown you a lot of ways to start a fire without using matches.
But some people in the comments of a say, why not just pack a lighter?
it is small and compact.
And with a roll of thumb you have a flame.
And it’s true as long as your lighter works.
A lighter is an extremely good tool to start a fire,
but they run out of gas and sometimes they are smashed.
You might find something like this on a walking trail when you hike at your campsite.
If you do, then there is no waste.
The reason for this is that the string wheel and flint still works and can still make sparks.
Now a spark alone is not sufficient enough to start a fire.
We need much more than that.
But it’s enough to get us started.
The first thing to do is to find some flat stick.
Relatively flat like this.
Because we will take the side of the string wheel …
and drive slowly down the stick as here.
The longer the stem, the longer you can run with it.
What it does is to crumble some of ferrocerium inside …
and doing some dust you can use to light a flame.
Remember, you will not do it too fast …
because if you do it too fast it will make sparks and it will fire up.
If you do it slowly enough you can scrape ferrocerium stick to dust …
without igniting it yet.
You want to make it about 40-50 times on a stick about 20-25 cm long.
Now, hold your lighter on the page as you run it you will collect dust as it is formed,
it falls down and gets trapped inside the hood here.
So all we have to do now is to turn it upside down on the material or fires we will ignite.
And now all it takes is a scroll with your thumb …
we’ve got fire.
So see here folks, so easy, we have fire in our pile fires
Meanwhile our small pile of smoldering, I will make a small bundle of small twigs …
and we can breathe it into the flame.
Now, in an ideal world would you put optænings pile into your straw pile before setting fire to it.
But after that it is already underway, we can use a plastic card to get gently under the deck …
And pick pile up on the map. Once you have successfully collected the pile on the map …
Take your straw bundle above and gently turn it over.
And you can see how well the embers have formed.
It will make a good flame very quickly.
At this point we just need to add a little oxygen …
and we’ve got fire.
There it is.
How cool is that?
But if you have something like paper towels or Kleenex will be easier.
Just make a pile in the middle of the paper,
and when you give it a spark to the whole paper fires up.
you can use it as kindling instead.
And so easy, we have fire immediately,
and we need our fire place really fast.
A very easy trick and it does not get much easier than that.
Thank you for being with me in this experiment.
And I look forward to the next video with you.
Seen until then.
