confessional lyrics indie rock
sensibilities and catchy hooks are would
have given this band its edge oh she
can’t wait for what I can’t give she
knows what I am but you won’t believe hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Bombay Bicycle Club believe it it’s
always like there’s like
I am Jack I sing and a lot of people
think that I’m being horrible but I’m
just being open I’m Jamie and I play
guitar and it’s my birthday boy was
yesterday and I’m also sexy kept it
every years you’d kept your word we
always like to start with the origin
stories of the bands that we interview
so tell us how Bombay Bicycle Club
originated well we met at school I’m
about 15 and we were asked to play like
a school assembly the three of us got
together and did that and then it’s just
sort of evolved from there really jack
had always made music by himself so we
sort of had a base layer of songs to
start working with and move from that
what kind of music did you all grow up
listening to and did you have like any
idols icons in terms of your specific
instruments when we were starting
actually yeah when we were 15 we were
listening to a lot of sort of American
and particularly canadian indie music we
were big fans of broke broken social
scene and stars and the Aqua fire yeah
we’ve always been influenced more by
stuff on this side of the pond what was
the music scene like where you guys grew
up when we were at that age it was at
the sort of the height of indie in the
UK and where it really sort of broken
into the mainstream and you have bands
like Franz Ferdinand and block party and
it’s actually that’s actually kind of on
a way now and it’s a lot harder for
guitar bands to sort of get noticed but
there was an underage scene that was
going on a lot of under 18 gigs when we
were starting and so many of the bands
were under 18 as well I don’t know how
much we’re part of a scene we were part
of us or more of a movement I guess of
just making gigs for that everyone can
go to which was really useful for us
because so many times we’d be playing a
gig and you know we go out for a drink
and come back and the bouncer wouldn’t
let him try to explain that we’re
playing but he wouldn’t believe
I know a lot of bands don’t like to
categorize their music to specifically
but if you were forced to describe your
music for someone who’d never heard it
how would you do it it’s kind of
difficult because all three albums we’ve
done very different I don’t know you
write the songs so I’m passing the buck
that’s just like indie pop music with a
hint of groove thank you very much guys
okay thank you very much
