Proof: Rena Effendi on Beauty in Unexpected Places | National Geographic

when I was growing up things around me
seemed really gray and unattractive and
I thought this life was terrible but
then as I became an adult I realized
that there’s something very powerful
about this picture this life something
very even aesthetic you can say and in a
way I I sort of found the beauty in my
in my own reality through photography it
brings people from different kinds of
places in the world brings them together
in one human experiment if the pictures
are great you will connect with that
place you’ll understand that place this
is how we communicate with the rest of
the world you you start to fall in love
with the place only after a certain time
passes and that’s when you take your
most powerful images in the whole
process it really it becomes very
personal it becomes very much involved
you just you become this like you know
person that like super human being that
doesn’t need anything just go out and
taking pictures and you don’t notice bad
weather or hunger or the exhaustion you
know you just take pictures the way I
see it you take a new layer on your skin
it’s almost you become like this cabbage
you know you’re just adding layers and
more and more layers and you’ve become
you know aware of these different
cultures and the people in the place and
it becomes part of you that that you
just can’t take away
