at the moment in Australia 60
and twenty five percent of children are
overweight or obese diet-related disease
is the biggest killer in the country and
you have the first generation right now
of children expected to live a shorter
life than their parents which in 2010 is
ridiculous you know Australia for me is
a country full of open-minded cooking
incredible produce some of the best
chefs in the world and yet even though
this cooking shows all over TV there’s
this massive health epidemic related to
food I want to make this with you a
great success I know that the Ministry
of Food changes lives it empowers people
it saves people money and it makes them
happier enjoy food more and most
importantly makes them not a statistic
it makes you more healthy
so the Ministry of Food Australia to me
is the start a seed of something quite
powerful that can go across Australia
it’s not just going to be shops and
kitchens in communities that need help
it’s also going to be mobile kitchens
that can go into the most hard-to-reach
areas we really can come to you it’s
just basic education a little bit of
mentoring hints tips shortcuts how to
shop how to save money and how to make
beautiful tasty quick meals for yourself
or your family you can do it with your
kid your boyfriend your mum we take
anyone any shape size no matter where
you come from we’ll have you even though
there’s wonderful restaurants around
Australia and this cooking shows on
every bloomin channel it’s all great but
skin on skin the contact with real
people standing beside someone and
cooking with them is what truly makes a
difference and that’s what we’re doing
in the Ministry of Food we’re trying to
mimic and replicate you know what mums
and dads used to do with their kids on a
much more regular basis
I’m really excited we’re going to be
opening the first Ministry of Food
Australia site in Queensland in an area
called Apes which which definitely needs
our help I can’t wait to get there get
the shop opened get the kitchens run in
and get the community in there and then
for the people of Ipswich you know
getting the tools getting the
information getting the skills is only a
stone’s throw away I’m really proud to
be going there I think the community are
going to love it I think they’re going
to embrace it let’s all get involved and
supported
