ok the next movement we’re going to talk
about is the war in Iraq and basically
what we’ll just call today’s global
struggle or social movements today that
really caused people to get up and right
now artist thing we would associate with
this are our artists that we we really
would associated with this are people
like greenday who I would kind of call
the usual suspects you know I mean
they’re American Idiot is just a perfect
example of what they do and but other
artists have gotten involved here too I
mean a girl group like the Dixie Chicks
whoo-hoo you would think really couldn’t
be more benign if you recall um at the
beginning of the 21st century they
actually were having their albums burns
like it was Nazi Germany and and all
this because they got up at a concert
and they said well they weren’t really
happy that they came from the same place
as george bush and apparently you don’t
say that hmm um if you want to continue
to have a to have a vibrant singing
career now of course a lot of people
garner respect like including myself for
the dixie chicks who might not have
taken note of them kind of turned around
and said well ok they have something to
say and they’re standing up for it and
you can really appreciate although both
green day and the dixie chicks are great
current examples i think probably a the
best song to encapsulate this movement
is all these things i’ve done by the
killers and let me quote it for you they
they essentially say i’ve got soul but
i’m not a soldier I really like
happiness they kind of asserted it’s
okay to love your country and to you
know and to want to protect it and to
want to keep it safe but but potentially
not to want to go to work I’m not to
send your child off to go to war before
he’s you know before he was old enough
to drink
and get killed and potentially there’s
another way yeah
